Car Detailing Before Selling — Get It Listing-Ready at Your Driveway

Pre-sale and trade-in detailing that makes the listing photos pop and survives a buyer's walk-around and sniff test.

★ Mobile — we come to youWe come to youOpen 24/7

A used car sells on condition, and buyers judge condition in the first thirty seconds. On AutoTrader, Kijiji Autos or Facebook Marketplace they scroll past dull paint and crumb-filled seats without reading the description. In person they open the doors, sniff, lift the floor mats and look in the trunk before they ask about the oil changes.

Auto Royale comes to your driveway or condo garage and gets the car to the state where none of that works against you. We handle the paint, the interior, the glass, the wheels and the smells, then you take the photos and post the listing the same day.

What buyers and appraisers actually check

Private buyers and dealership used-car managers look at the same things, because dirt and neglect in certain spots hint at bigger problems. A clean car does not hide a mechanical issue, but a dirty one makes a buyer assume there are several.

The pre-sale detail, step by step

Outside, we foam and hand wash, remove the iron and tar that a wash alone leaves behind, and do a light polish so the paint has depth in photos instead of a flat, swirled look. Tires get a satin dressing rather than a greasy shine, and hazy headlights get sanded and sealed so they match the rest of the car. If you want it, we wipe the engine bay down so it looks maintained without looking suspiciously new.

Inside, carpets and seats get shampooed and extracted, leather is cleaned and conditioned, and vents, cupholders and crevices are detailed. Glass is cleaned inside and out. If the car has been smoked in or carried a dog, we treat the source and run an ozone cycle, because a buyer will notice the smell before anything else.

Photos that get clicks on AutoTrader, Kijiji and Marketplace

Shoot right after the detail, before the car is driven. Early morning or the hour before sunset gives soft light and no harsh reflections. Find a plain background such as an empty lot or a quiet side street, not your driveway with the recycling bins in the frame. Turn the front wheels slightly so the face of the rim shows.

Take more than you think you need: every panel, every seat, the odometer, the trunk with the mat lifted, the engine bay, the tire tread, and close-ups of any scratches or chips so buyers trust the listing. Serious buyers skip ads with four photos.

Trade-in appraisal versus a private sale

When a dealer appraises a trade, the number starts with what they think the car is worth retail and subtracts what it will cost them to recondition it. A car that arrives detailed removes most of that argument. For a private sale, a clean car simply gets more messages, better buyers and fewer lowball offers that open with the words 'it needs a detail'.

We do not promise a specific increase in value; that depends on the car, the market and how you negotiate. Presentation is the one factor you fully control.

What to text us when you book

Send the year, make, model and trim, a couple of photos of the interior and paint, and anything a buyer might object to, such as smoke, pet hair, a stain or scratches. Tell us when the listing goes live or when the appraisal is booked and we will schedule the detail for the day before. We provide an itemized invoice on request, which some sellers include in the listing.

Best for

Typical time: A full inside-and-out pre-sale detail takes 3–5 hours, with paint polishing, headlight restoration or odour treatment adding time on top; book it for the day before your photos or appraisal.

Detailing for your situation

Detailing Before Selling — FAQ

Is it worth detailing a car before selling it?
In almost every case, yes. Buyers decide whether to message you based on photos, and they decide whether to trust the car based on how it looks and smells in person. A detail is the one part of the sale you can control completely.
Should I detail the car before a trade-in appraisal too?
Yes. Appraisers deduct reconditioning from their offer, and a car that already looks lot-ready gives them less to deduct. It also signals the car was looked after, which affects how they view the mechanical side.
Can you fix scratches before I list the car?
Swirls and light scratches that have not gone through the clear coat come out with polishing. Deeper scratches you can catch a fingernail in can be made less visible but not removed, and we will tell you which is which before we start.
Will the smoke smell be gone before a buyer test drives it?
We remove the source by cleaning the headliner, vents, carpets and seats, then run ozone. The difference is dramatic in most cars. Very heavy, long-term smoke can leave a faint trace on hot days, so book early and be upfront in the listing.
How long before I take photos should the detail happen?
The same day, before the car is driven anywhere. Dressing is settled, glass is streak-free and nothing has had a chance to land on the paint. If the photos are at sunset, a morning detail is perfect.
Can I show the buyer your invoice?
Yes. We provide an itemized invoice on request listing what was done, and some sellers include it with the maintenance records to show the car was prepared rather than quickly wiped down.
Should the engine bay be cleaned for a sale?
A light clean and dressing helps, since buyers and their mechanics photograph it. We avoid over-dressing it, because an engine bay that looks spotless on a ten-year-old car can make buyers wonder what a leak was hiding.
