Wheel, Rim & Tire Detailing — Brake Dust, Iron Removal and Dressing, Mobile GTA

Wheel faces, barrels and calipers deep-cleaned, embedded brake dust dissolved with iron remover, tires scrubbed and dressed without sling.

Wheels take more punishment than any other part of the car and get the least care: brake dust that bakes onto the finish at highway temperatures, salt and brine packed into the barrel all winter, curb scuffs from Toronto street parking, and the brown bloom that creeps over tires that have only ever been sprayed with a hose. Auto Royale details wheels, rims and tires at your home or office anywhere in the GTA, and we clean the parts you cannot see from the sidewalk.

Brake dust is mostly iron. Hot particles shed from the pads and rotors land on the wheel and embed in the clear coat, which is why they survive a car wash and why a wheel that looks clean still feels gritty. Our process dissolves that iron chemically rather than scrubbing at it, which is the difference between a wheel that stays clean for weeks and one that is grey again in days.

Face, barrel, lugs and calipers

A wheel has four surfaces, and most washes touch one. We clean the face, the inner barrel behind the spokes, the lug nut recesses and the caliper and hub visible through the wheel. The barrel is where brake dust and salt pile up thickest, and it is what you see on a rolling car from the side. We use long-reach brushes for the barrels, small detail brushes for lug recesses and spoke edges, and a soft wheel woolie for painted and polished finishes.

The sequence is rinse, pH-neutral wheel cleaner with agitation, then an iron remover that reacts with embedded brake-dust particles and turns purple as it dissolves them, then a thorough rinse. On neglected wheels we follow with a clay pass to pull out what is left bonded to the finish.

Matching the chemistry to your wheel finish

Not every wheel tolerates the same cleaner, so we identify the finish before anything touches it.

Tires: cleaning the brown off before dressing

Tire rubber contains antiozonants that migrate to the surface and oxidize into a brown film, and old dressing layers trap it. We scrub tires with a dedicated rubber cleaner and a stiff brush until the foam runs white, not brown, which is the only way a dressing will look even. Then we apply a water-based dressing in satin or gloss, depending on your preference, worked into the sidewall with an applicator so it does not sling onto your paint on the first drive down the street.

Wheel wells and the plastic liners are degreased and dressed too; a clean wheel in a filthy wheel well looks unfinished.

Protection and the seasonal tire swap

Clean wheels are the right time to protect them. A wheel sealant or a ceramic coating made for wheels makes brake dust release with a rinse and keeps winter salt from bonding, which matters more here than almost anywhere. The seasonal tire changeover in the GTA is the natural moment: we can detail and protect the set coming off before it goes into storage and the set going on before it sees salt.

Best for

Typical time: About 45–90 minutes for four wheels and tires as part of an exterior detail; add 30–60 minutes for wheel sealant or coating.

Wheel & Tire Detailing — FAQ

Why do my wheels get dirty so fast after a wash?
Because the wash removed loose dust but left the embedded iron particles and old layers of grime, which hold new brake dust like velcro. Dissolving the iron and sealing the wheel keeps them cleaner for far longer.
Is iron remover safe on my wheels?
On painted, clear-coated and powder-coated wheels, yes; it is pH-balanced and we rinse it fully. We do not use it on bare polished aluminum or damaged finishes, where we switch to gentler products.
Can you clean the inside of the wheels without taking them off?
Yes. Long barrel brushes reach the inner rim through the spokes and we roll the car slightly to reach behind the caliper. Removing wheels is not necessary for a thorough clean.
Why do my tires turn brown?
Rubber contains antiozonant compounds that migrate out and oxidize into a brown layer, a process called blooming. Scrubbing it off with a tire cleaner before dressing is what gives an even black finish.
What tire dressing do you use and will it sling?
A water-based dressing applied with a pad and wiped, in satin or gloss. Sling comes from solvent-based sprays applied heavily; worked-in water-based dressing stays on the tire.
Do you fix curb rash on rims?
No, that is wheel repair work. We clean and protect scuffed wheels and point out damage, and the clean surface makes a repair shop's job easier.
Should I detail my winter wheels before storing them?
Yes. Salt left on a stored wheel keeps corroding in the garage. Cleaning, drying and sealing the set before it goes into bags means they come out in spring ready to mount.
