Detailing your BMW Z4

Z4s in the GTA are almost all seasonal cars, so our work splits into a spring wake-up and a fall put-away. Spring means removing storage dust without scratching, refreshing the sealant and conditioning sun-dried leather. Fall means cleaning and water-proofing the fabric roof, drying the seals and leaving a coat of protection that will carry the car through a few months under a cover. Older hardtop cars get their drain channels cleared every visit.

What we watch for on a Z4

• The fabric top on the current Z4 needs a fabric cleaner and a water-repellent treatment, and it should be dry before the roof is folded to avoid mildew
• The folding metal hardtop on 2009–2016 cars has drain channels and seals that trap leaves and grit, so we clean the roof seams and seal rubbers
• After winter storage the paint is dusty rather than dirty, so a rinseless wash and a sealant refresh is the right spring routine rather than aggressive polishing
• Two-seat cabins get sun-baked; the leather dries out and the dash gets hot enough to bake in cleaner residue, so we use a UV protectant without gloss
• Low front lip and long doors scuff on garage pillars and ramps; we inspect for scrapes before polishing and note any that need paint
