The TL is a loyalist's car, and the fourth-generation ones in Scarborough are often meticulously maintained mechanically while the paint and headlights have aged out. We restore the headlights, polish the clear coat that can be saved and clean the button-filled centre stack with brushes. The light leather gets cleaned and conditioned matte, and the lower body gets decontaminated before a sealant so the next winter is easier on it.

What we watch for on a TL

• Clear coat on the roof, hood and trunk is often peeling on these cars, especially on dark colours; we polish what can be saved and note what needs paint
• Headlights are usually yellowed enough that a restoration makes the biggest visual difference
• The button-heavy centre stack has dozens of crevices; a soft brush and a lightly misted microfibre clean them without pushing liquid behind the buttons
• Parchment and Taupe leather crease and go grey on the driver's side; a proper cleaner and a matte conditioner restore them
• The wide front wheels fling sand onto the lower doors, and the rocker panels hold a thick winter film that needs decontamination before any polish

Luxury cars: soft paint, delicate trim

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
