Detailing your Mercedes-Benz GLC

The GLC is the Mercedes we see most on GTA driveways, usually in white or grey with a beige interior and a lease that will be inspected. We clean the light seats with foam rather than wipes, extract the rear carpets, polish the pitted chrome and handle the piano-black trim with a soft cloth. The paint takes a fine polish well and a sealant keeps the winter film from bonding, which keeps the car looking new until return day.

What we watch for on a GLC

• This is the best-selling Mercedes SUV in the GTA and most are leased, so we concentrate on wheel rash, sill scuffs, rear carpet stains and the glossy trim inspectors notice
• Piano-black console trim micro-scratches from rings and bags; we clean it with a soft microfibre and no abrasive polish
• Silk Beige seats show denim transfer and sunscreen; a foaming synthetic leather cleaner and a soft brush restore the colour
• GLC Coupe rear glass sits at a shallow angle and spots badly; it gets a glass polish when the spots have etched in
• Plug-in hybrid cars have a charge port on the rear bumper corner that collects salt spray; we clean it with a brush and damp cloth, not water pressure

Compact crossovers are family cars, gear haulers and dog taxis in one. The cargo floor, the rear seatbacks and the door sills collect the most dirt, while taller bodies catch more road spray along the sides.
