Detailing your Volvo C40 / EX40

The C40 and EX40 are electric Volvos with no leather anywhere, so the usual interior products stay in the van. We clean the suede-like Microtech with a microfibre-safe product, dust the backlit trim panels dry and clean the fixed glass roof from inside. Outside, there is no engine bay, so the time goes into the gloss-black nose, the charge port flap and a sealant that lets winter film rinse off the tall flat sides without scrubbing.

What we watch for on a C40 / EX40

• There is no leather, so the Microtech suede-like seats need a microfibre-specific cleaner and a soft brush rather than leather products or all-purpose spray
• The backlit topographic trim panels on the dash and doors are cleaned with a dry microfibre; sprays can get behind the lighting
• The C40's fixed glass roof has no shade and is cleaned from inside with a glass-safe cleaner only
• The closed black front panel scratches more easily than a grille; it is washed with foam and a soft mitt
• The charge flap on the rear fender takes a season of 401 salt spray; we brush it clean and wipe the surround with a damp cloth rather than spraying water near the connector
