Most 6 Series we see are a decade old and either babied or neglected, with not much in between. The long bonnet and big trunk lid show years of etching and swirls, so paint correction tends to be the service that transforms them. Cream and brown leather in these cars needs a proper cleaner and conditioner rather than a wipe-down, and the convertible roof fabric deserves the same seasonal protection as the paint.

What we watch for on a 6 Series

• Long doors and low seats mean the leather on the outer bolsters is creased and dye-faded on most cars by now; we clean, condition and check for cracking before any product goes on
• Convertibles have a fabric roof with a glass rear window; the fabric needs a dedicated cleaner and protectant, and the seams collect green film if parked under trees
• Ivory White and Cinnamon leather show every mark, so a gentle leather cleaner and soft brush usually make the biggest visual difference
• Older clear coat on these cars has often been through many automatic washes, so a two-step correction is sometimes needed to clear the swirls on dark colours
• The long hood and large flat trunk lid collect bird droppings and sap that etch quickly in summer heat; we remove spots before polishing

Luxury cars: soft paint, delicate trim

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
