Detailing your Scion tC

Every tC came with a panoramic glass roof, which is lovely in summer and a magnet for water spots in Lake Ontario humidity, so the roof gets cleaned and sealed like the paint. Most tCs were modified at some point, so we check the engine bay before any water goes near it. The long doors and big hatch glass have usually been hand-washed into swirls that a one-step polish clears, and the cloth gets extracted after a decade of use.

What we watch for on a tC

• The standard panoramic glass roof water-spots and is cleaned and sealed with the paint
• Many were modified with aftermarket wheels, exhausts and intakes; we check the engine bay before any rinse
• 18-inch wheels trap brake dust between spokes
• The long doors and big hatch glass show swirls from years of hand washing; a one-step polish clears them
• Cloth seats have absorbed years of use and respond to hot-water extraction

Compact cars: small cabins, big wear

Small cabins mean every surface is within reach of a stray coffee or a boot print, and the carpets take it all. Outside, compact cars live a hard life in parking lots and on the 401, so the lower panels collect salt and stone chips.
