Foam and hand wash, iron and tar decontamination, clay, wheels and tires, dressing and sealant — all done where your car is parked.
An exterior detail is a wash taken all the way: the paint is decontaminated rather than just rinsed, the wheels are cleaned inside the barrels, the trim is dressed, and the finish is protected before we leave. Auto Royale does it in your driveway, office lot or condo garage anywhere in the GTA, with water and power on board.
The problem with a drive-through wash is not only the brushes. It is everything the wash leaves behind: bonded iron from brake dust, tar flicked up on the Gardiner, sap from the maple over your parking spot, and the salt film that keeps attacking paint and trim long after the slush is gone. None of that comes off with soap. It takes dedicated chemicals and a clay step, which is what separates a detail from a wash.
Wheels and tires come first so brake dust does not get splashed onto clean paint. A dedicated wheel cleaner, barrel brushes and a stiff tire brush take the browning off the rubber and the dust out of the spokes. Then the body gets a snow-foam pre-wash to soften and lift loose grit, followed by a two-bucket hand wash with a microfibre mitt and grit guards.
After the wash we decontaminate. An iron remover sprayed on the paint turns purple as it dissolves embedded brake and rail dust. A tar remover handles the black specks along the rocker panels and behind the wheels. A clay bar or clay mitt then lifts whatever is still bonded, and you can feel the paint go from gritty to glass-smooth under your hand.
Once the paint is clean and bare, it needs something on it. Our standard exterior detail finishes with a spray sealant that beads water and makes the next wash easier. If you want longer-lasting protection, a paste wax or a full polymer sealant can be applied in the same visit. If your car already has a ceramic coating, we use a coating-safe shampoo and a silica topper that will not interfere with it.
Spring is when most exterior details get booked, because the salt residue, the grime in the panel gaps and the dull, chalky look of the paint are hard to ignore once the snow is gone. Summer brings bugs on the front bumper after a cottage run, tree sap, bird droppings that etch in the heat, and construction dust around downtown condos. Fall is the time to decontaminate and seal the paint before the brine trucks come out.
Winter details are possible too. On days above freezing we can wash and protect in a driveway, and in heated underground garages we switch to rinseless methods that work year-round.
We need a parking spot with roughly a car length of room around the vehicle. Driveways, office lots and quiet street spots all work. In condo garages we use low-water methods and keep run-off contained; if your building has specific rules, tell us when you book. Plan for 1.5 to 3 hours, and longer for trucks, large SUVs or a car that has gone a whole season without a proper wash.
Typical time: An exterior detail runs about 1.5 to 3 hours; large trucks, SUVs and heavily contaminated paint add time.
