Salt flushed out, iron and grit pulled from the paint, snow-brush scratches polished, and protection laid down before pollen and sun.
Spring detailing is a different job from winter detailing. In winter the goal is damage control between storms. In April the salt is finally done, and the job is a full reset: get every trace of it out of the paint, the wheel wells and the carpets, repair what four months of snow brushes and slush did to the finish, and lay down protection before the next assault, which in the GTA is pollen, sap, bird droppings and sun.
Auto Royale does the whole sequence in your driveway or garage. It is our busiest season, and the cars that get in early, right after the last salting, are the ones that look best by June.
Pull a car into the sun in April and the list writes itself.
We start low and work up. Wheel wells, rockers and the reachable underside get flushed until the water runs clear. The paint gets a foam wash, then an iron remover that turns purple as it dissolves the embedded particles, then a clay bar to pull out whatever grit is left. Inside, salt stains are dissolved and extracted from the carpets and mats rather than scrubbed, and the carpets are dried so the moisture is gone with the salt.
Once the paint is clean, the winter scratches show. Most are shallow and come out with a single polishing stage, which also restores the gloss that salt film has been hiding since December. Faded trim gets a restorer that brings the black back rather than a greasy dressing that washes off in the first rain. Yellowed headlights get sanded, polished and sealed.
From late April into June, maple, birch and oak pollen settles on every car in the GTA as a yellow dust. When it gets wet it turns mildly acidic and can etch unprotected clear coat if it sits in the sun, and it is quickly joined by tree sap and bird droppings. A sealant or ceramic coating applied now gives the paint a slick, sacrificial layer so all of that rinses off instead of bonding.
We seal the wheels so summer brake dust does not bake on, apply a glass sealant so the spring downpours bead off the windshield, and if you are swapping winter tires off, we clean them before they go into storage so the salt is not sitting on the rims until November.
A winter of wet boots leaves a cabin that smells like a basement. We lift the mats and check the carpet underneath for the beginnings of mildew, extract and dry the carpets, steam the touchpoints and run the vents. If the car smells musty when the air conditioning first comes on, that is the evaporator, and we treat the system. A cabin air filter that has filtered a winter of road dust is usually worth replacing at the same time.
The sweet spot is after the last salting, usually late March or early April, and before pollen peaks in May. Spring weekends fill quickly, so text us a week or two ahead. Condo garages are fine for all of this using rinseless methods, and a cool garage is a good place for the polishing and coating steps.
Typical time: A spring reset is usually a full inside-and-out at 3–5 hours, with polishing adding 2–4 hours and ceramic coating turning it into a full day including prep.
