The Model S has been in GTA driveways longer than any other EV, and a lot of the ones we see are on their second decade with white seats that have taken on a blue tint from jeans. We lift that with the right cleaner, protect the synthetic leather and the dash from the sun through the glass roof and clean the screens like the electronics they are. The paint is soft, so we hand wash, correct carefully and recommend a ceramic coating that makes future washes gentler.

What we watch for on a Model S

• White and cream synthetic leather shows denim dye on the driver's bolster; a dedicated vinyl-safe cleaner lifts it and a protectant slows it coming back
• The glass roof has no shade on most cars, so the dash and seats get UV; a protectant on the dash and seats is worth it
• Screens are the whole interior; a screen-safe cleaner and a lint-free cloth, never a glass cleaner with ammonia
• Tesla paint is known for a soft clear coat that swirls easily, so we hand wash with fresh mitts and recommend a ceramic coating after correction
• Flush door handles that present on approach have recesses that collect salt; we clean and dry them for winter
