The DB9 is a V12 grand tourer that most GTA owners bought new and still store every winter, so it comes to us in spring with dust rather than dirt and leather that has gone glossy from years of the wrong product. We lift the dust with a rinseless wash, correct the aged clear coat with a fine pad and coat it. The leather gets stripped and conditioned matte, the veneer gets a soft cloth and the Volante roof gets a fabric treatment.

What we watch for on a DB9

• The Volante's fabric roof needs a fabric cleaner and a water-repellent treatment, and the seams collect green film if the car sits under trees
• Older clear coat has often been through years of swirling; a measured correction with a fine pad and a coating restore the depth
• Sandstorm and other light leathers have often gone shiny from silicone products; a cleaner that strips the residue and a matte conditioner restore the proper finish
• The DB9's wood veneer has a lacquer finish that fogs if an abrasive cleaner touches it; we use a plush microfibre and nothing else
• The DB9's first spring wash is done rinseless so the storage dust lifts without scratching, and the sealant is renewed before the car sees the road
