Interior film haze, smoker's residue, dressing overspray and exterior water spots removed from windshield, windows and mirrors — tint-safe.
The haze you notice on the inside of the windshield at night on the DVP, when every oncoming headlight turns into a starburst, is not dirt from outside. It is a film that condenses from the plastics in your dash as they warm in the sun, mixed with whatever has been in the cabin air: smoke, vape, takeout, fingerprints, the overspray from a dash dressing. Auto Royale cleans car glass inside and out wherever your car is parked in the GTA.
Clean glass is a technique problem more than a product problem. The film smears if you use one towel, one cleaner and go in circles, which is why the inside of a windshield can look worse after cleaning than before. We use a method that removes the film rather than redistributing it, and we treat the outside of the glass as a surface that needs decontamination, not just a wipe.
Interior glass is done in two passes with two towels. The first pass uses an ammonia-free glass cleaner, safe on aftermarket tint, and a waffle-weave microfibre to cut and absorb the film. The second pass is a dry, lint-free towel to remove the last of the moisture and residue. We work the windshield from both front seats with a reach tool to get the base of the glass where the dash meets it, which is the band most people never reach and where the haze is thickest.
On a smoker's car or one with heavy off-gassing, the film needs a degreasing step before the glass cleaner will touch it. Fingerprints and dog-nose smears on the rear windows get the same treatment, and we finish the mirrors, the sunroof glass and the instrument cluster and screens with a screen-safe cleaner.
Exterior glass picks up the same bonded contamination as paint: iron particles, road film, tree sap, and in the GTA a winter's worth of salt spray. A clean-looking windshield that chatters under the wipers or beads unevenly in rain usually has a film on it. We wash the glass, clay it to lift bonded contaminants, polish out light water spotting with a glass polish where needed, and only then do the final streak-free clean. The wiper blades are wiped down too, since dirty blades drag grit across the glass and re-deposit film.
A hydrophobic glass coating is an optional finish: rain beads and runs off at highway speed, which makes a real difference on the 401 in a November downpour, and frost and bugs clear more easily. We apply it only to clean, decontaminated glass so it bonds and lasts. Other details we handle as a matter of course:
Glass is the last thing we do in any interior or exterior detail, because dressing and wax overspray land on it during everything else, and it is the first thing you see when you get in. Clean glass is also a safety detail: a filmed windshield scatters light, and the difference on a rainy night in Scarborough with oncoming traffic is not subtle.
Typical time: Glass is included in every detail; as a standalone inside-and-out glass service it takes about 30–60 minutes, longer if the exterior needs claying or polishing.
