If you moved to Toronto from the UK, Ireland, Australia or South Africa, the word you are reaching for is valeting, and the search results are confusing because in Canada a valet is the person who parks your car at a hotel. What you want is what we do: a mobile car valet that comes to your house, your flat's underground car park or your office and cleans the car inside and out. The terminology is different but the work maps almost one to one. This page translates it so you can book the right thing the first time.
In Britain and Ireland, valeting generally means a thorough clean: hoovering, shampooing, wiping the dash, washing the outside, a wax if you paid for it. Detailing over there tends to mean the enthusiast end, with machine polishing and ceramic coatings. In Canada and the US, detailing covers the whole range, from a quick clean to a multi-day correction, and valeting is not really used at all.
So when we say interior detail, read interior valet. When we say full detail, read full valet. And when we say mobile, we mean the same thing you meant: we come to you with everything on the van, and you do not drive anywhere or drop anything off.
Here is the rough translation. The scope of each one is the same as you would expect from a good valeter back home; what changes is the size of the vehicles and the amount of road salt.
The climate changes the job. From November to April, Ontario roads are coated in salt and brine, which gets into carpets as white tide marks and onto paint and underbodies as a crust. Spring valets here are heavier on decontamination and salt-stain removal than anything you did in Manchester or Cork. Summers are humid and the pollen is thick, so a wash every few weeks matters.
Housing changes it too. A huge share of the city lives in condos with underground car parks and no tap, so we carry our own water and power, and we use rinseless methods where a hose is not practical. Nobody will ask you to bring the car round to a unit on an industrial estate.
