Detailing your Lexus RZ

The RZ is Lexus going electric, with a synthetic suede interior and a glass roof that dims on command, and both need specific care. We clean the Ultrasuede with a suede-safe product, wipe the glass roof from inside and tape the two-tone colour break before any polishing. There is no engine bay, so the exterior time goes into the gloss-black nose, the charge port flap and a sealant that lets winter film rinse away.

What we watch for on a RZ

• Ultrasuede seats darken with hand oils and need a microfibre-specific cleaner and a soft brush rather than leather products
• The fixed glass roof has no shade on dimming versions and is cleaned from inside with a glass-safe cleaner only
• Two-tone cars have a colour break at the pillars that we tape before polishing so the pad never bridges the two finishes
• The closed spindle-shaped front panel is gloss plastic that scratches more easily than a grille; foam and a soft mitt only
• The charge port on the front fender collects salt spray; we clean the flap and surround with a brush and damp cloth
