Impalas range from a decade-old ex-taxi still working in Scarborough to a tidy 2019 Premier owned by a retired couple in Etobicoke, and we detail both. The big sedan has a lot of carpet and a wide back seat, so a full interior takes a bit longer than average and the extraction pulls out years of road salt. On the outside, the long flat panels show oxidation that a proper compound and polish will fix, and a sealant keeps it fixed.

What we watch for on a Impala

• The storage bin behind the motorized screen on 2014 and newer cars collects receipts and crumbs that owners forget about; we open it and clean it
• Older taxi and fleet Impalas have heavily worn rear seats and door panels; we clean them and are upfront about which marks are wear rather than dirt
• Big flat hood and trunk lid on dark colours show oxidation and swirl marks; a compound and polish bring the gloss back
• The rear seat is wide enough that the centre section rarely gets used, so crumbs and dust build up in the seat crease and under the armrest
• Eighteen and 19-inch wheels on newer cars have painted finishes that respond to a gentle wheel cleaner and a brush
