Detailing your Mercedes-Benz CLE

The CLE is new enough that most of the ones we see are on their first or second winter, so the goal is to keep swirl marks from ever starting. We hand wash, decontaminate and apply a durable sealant or coating before the salt does its work. The cabriolet roof fabric and the Airscarf vents need gentle, specific care, and the frameless doors get their seals cleaned so the glass stays clear.

What we watch for on a CLE

• The cabriolet fabric roof needs a fabric cleaner and a water-repellent treatment, and the roof must be fully dry before it is folded away
• Airscarf vents in the seat headrests collect dust and lint; we clean them with a soft brush and low suction
• The portrait touchscreen and the gloss-black trim around it mark easily, so we use a screen-safe cleaner and lint-free microfibre
• Frameless windows on both body styles leave a grime line along the upper seal that streaks glass; we clean the seal each visit
• AMG CLE 53 cars have 20-inch wheels and heavy brake dust that need an iron remover and a long brush before polishing the wheels

Luxury cars: soft paint, delicate trim

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
