The Solterra is Subaru's version of the bZ4X, with StarTex upholstery that shrugs off wet dogs and a fabric dash panel that cannot be sprayed with cleaner. We brush the dash dry, pull the hair out of the StarTex with a rubber brush, and restore the huge black fender arches that go grey after a winter or two. The front compartment holds electronics rather than an engine, so it is cleaned without water, and the paint and glass get a coating.

• Large unpainted black fender arches fade quickly and need a trim restorer
• StarTex upholstery wipes clean but holds dog hair in its texture
• There is no engine under the hood, only sealed electronics, so the front compartment is cleaned dry
• The charge-port door and its seal collect salt and need wiping so the flap closes cleanly
