Detailing your Mercedes-Benz A-Class

The A-Class was Mercedes' entry car in Canada for a short run, and most of them have done years of downtown commuting by now. The small cabin packs in a lot of fiddly surfaces, from the turbine vents to the light strips and the twin screens, and they all need a brush or a lint-free cloth rather than a spray and wipe. The paint responds well to a light polish and a sealant for the salt months.

What we watch for on a A-Class

• The turbine-style air vents have deep fins that collect dust; a soft detailing brush and low vacuum suction clean them without bending the louvres
• The wide MBUX screens show fingerprints and smudges, so we use a screen-safe cleaner and a lint-free microfibre instead of all-purpose spray
• Macchiato Beige Artico is common and shows denim dye on the driver's side; a dedicated synthetic leather cleaner lifts it without dulling the grain
• The ambient light strips run along the dash and doors and trap dust in their channels; a brush and a careful wipe keep them crisp
• Mercedes paint from this era is soft enough that a few seasons of automatic washes leave swirls on Cosmos Black and Mountain Grey

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
