The Fusion was Ford's answer to the Camry for a decade, and in Toronto a large share of them became rideshare cars. That means the back seat has seen more passengers than most couches. What we watch for on a Fusion

• Fusion Hybrids are one of the most common Uber and Lyft cars in the GTA, so rear seats, rear door panels and the rear floor usually need full extraction and sanitizing
• Piano-black trim on the console and door switches scratches easily; we use plush microfibre and a dedicated plastic cleaner rather than an all-purpose spray
• The low, long roofline collects tree sap and pollen on the rear deck; iron decontamination and a clay bar before polishing make a real difference on dark paint
• Ruby Red and Burgundy Velvet tri-coat paints show swirl marks under parking-garage lights and respond well to a one-step polish and sealant
• Energi and Hybrid trunks have fabric-covered battery walls that collect dust and need a soft brush and vacuum rather than a wet clean

A midsize sedan usually carries the school run, the commute and the weekend grocery trip, which means a rear seat full of crumbs and a trunk full of whatever rolled around in it. Wide doors and large panels reward a proper two-bucket wash.
