Detailing your Volvo S90

The S90 is a long, quiet sedan that often spends its life in the chauffeur lane, and the rear compartment is where we concentrate. The Nappa leather gets foamed, the metal speaker grilles get brushed dry and the open-pore wood is wiped with a damp cloth and nothing else. Outside, the long roof and trunk take a light polish, a sealant keeps the salt film from bonding and the plug-in charge port is cleaned by hand.

What we watch for on a S90

• The long rear seat is where chauffeur-driven and family owners spend time, so the rear leather, door panels and carpet usually get more attention than the front
• Bowers & Wilkins speaker grilles are metal mesh that collects dust; we brush them dry and never spray cleaner into them
• Blond Nappa shows denim dye and sunscreen; a foaming cleaner and soft brush restore it evenly
• Open-pore wood across the dash and doors gets a damp microfibre only, no dressings
• Recharge cars have a charge port on the front fender that we clean with a brush rather than water pressure

Luxury cars: soft paint, delicate trim

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
