Detailing your Ferrari 488

The 488 added turbos and huge side intakes to the mid-engine Ferrari, and those intakes collect everything the 400-series highways throw up. We brush them out, dust the engine under the glass cover by hand and correct the paint lightly before coating it. What we watch for on a 488

• The large side intakes feed the turbos and collect leaves, bugs and grit; we clean them with a soft brush and foam and check the mesh
• The glass engine cover shows dust on the V8; we vacuum and wipe the engine bay by hand and never pressure wash it
• Pista cars have carbon fibre splitters, side skirts and optional carbon wheels that need a finishing polish and a coating against UV dulling
• The Spider's retractable hardtop has seals and drains that collect grit; we clean the seals and clear the channels
• Tri-coat and Rosso Corsa paints show swirls under sunlight; a light correction and a coating keep the finish deep without chasing the clear coat
