The ADX is Acura's newest and smallest SUV, so most of the ones we see are on their first winter and the goal is prevention. We hand wash, decontaminate and coat the thin clear coat before brush washes can swirl it, and tape the black roof before any polishing. Inside, the Ultrasuede gets a suede-safe cleaner, the piano-black console gets a soft cloth and the thin cargo carpet gets extracted so salt never settles in.

What we watch for on a ADX

• Ultrasuede inserts on A-Spec seats darken with hand oils and need a microfibre-specific cleaner rather than leather products
• The piano-black console scratches from keys and bags; a plush microfibre and a non-abrasive cleaner keep it clear
• Cars with the contrasting black roof have a colour break at the pillars that we tape before polishing
• Honda-family clear coat is thin, so brush-wash swirls show early and a sealant or coating from the first winter is the best prevention
• The small cargo area has a thin carpet that soaks up salt from bags; an extraction keeps it fresh
