Pre-treated, agitated and hot-water extracted carpets, floor mats and trunk liners, with salt crystals dissolved rather than smeared around.
Car carpet is a sponge with a pile on top. Below the fibres you can see there is a backing and then a thick padding, and that is where the slush, coffee, mud and road salt from every winter end up. Vacuuming cleans the surface and a wipe spreads what is in the pile around. Carpet shampoo with hot-water extraction is the method that pulls dirt and moisture back out from the bottom. Auto Royale does it in your driveway or condo garage anywhere in the GTA.
Carpets differ from seats in one important way: they take far more abuse and they take longer to dry, because of that padding. Our process is built around both facts. We pre-treat for the specific soil, scrub mechanically, extract with hot water and clean rinse water, and finish with air movement so the carpet is damp rather than soaked when we hand the car back.
We pull the floor mats and vacuum the carpet dry first, including under the seats and along the rails, because wet dirt is harder to remove than dry dirt. Then a pre-treatment matched to the problem: a salt neutralizer for winter crusting, an enzyme for drinks, milk and food, an alkaline cleaner for the greasy grey grime commuters track in.
After a few minutes of dwell, a drill brush or hand brush agitates the pile so the cleaner reaches the base of the fibres. Hot-water extraction follows: heated water and cleaner are injected and immediately vacuumed back out with a strong extractor, repeated with clean water until the recovery water runs clear. Air movers run on the footwells while we finish the rest of the car.
The white rings on your floor mats and footwells every winter are not dirt; they are dried salt crystals left behind when slush evaporated. Scrubbing them with ordinary shampoo spreads the salt, and the ring comes back as the carpet dries. We dissolve the crystals with a salt-neutralizing solution first, agitate, then extract the dissolved salt so it leaves the carpet for good. On carpets with several winters of build-up it can take a couple of passes, but the rings do come out.
Lake Ontario humidity and condo underground garages make wet carpet a mould and mildew risk, and padding that stays damp for days is where the musty smell comes from. Hot-water extraction recovers most of the moisture we put in, and the air movers take care of more. In summer the carpet is dry to the touch in a few hours. In winter, cracking the windows in a garage or running the heat on your next drive finishes the job overnight.
If the seats are fine but the floors are filthy, carpet shampoo on its own is the right booking, and it takes about an hour to an hour and a half with mats and the trunk. If the seats need extraction too, our interior detail covers both in one visit. Floor mats that are too far gone, with holes or delaminated backing, can be cleaned but not restored, and we say so up front.
Typical time: About one to one and a half hours for all carpets, floor mats and the trunk, plus drying time of a few hours depending on the weather.
