The EQE is the EQS formula in a size that fits a condo garage, and the care is the same: glass screens, gloss-black panels and flush handles that need brushes rather than brushes with grit. We keep abrasives away from the nose and the trim, clean out the handle pockets and seal the paint so salt film rinses off without scrubbing. Inside, the SUV's cargo well gets an extraction because it collects more slush than the sedan's trunk.

What we watch for on a EQE

• The black front panel and the piano-black trim inside both scratch easily, so the exterior gets foam and a soft mitt and the interior gets a plush microfibre
• Flush door handles leave pockets that fill with grit and ice in winter; we clean the recesses with a soft brush
• The sedan has a conventional trunk, but the SUV's cargo area has a deep well that collects slush from boots and hockey bags
• The Hyperscreen or standard portrait screen shows fingerprints, so we use a screen-safe cleaner and a lint-free towel
• Aerodynamic wheels have flat spokes that trap brake dust in the inner barrel; an iron remover and a long brush clean them without scratching the finish
