Detailing your BMW iX

The iX is a lounge on wheels, and the materials match: wool-blend cloth, natural leather, raw open-pore wood and a glass roof that tints electrically. None of those surfaces like a generic interior spray, so we work with fabric cleaner, soft brushes and damp microfibre. Outside there is no engine to clean, so the time goes into the self-healing nose panel, the charge port and the acres of glass that make the car feel so open.

What we watch for on a iX

• The electrochromic Sky Lounge glass roof has no shade and is cleaned from the inside with a glass-safe cleaner only, never an ammonia product
• The microfibre and wool cloth seats in the Loft trim need a fabric cleaner and a soft brush, and they must dry fully to avoid water rings
• The closed kidney grille is a self-healing plastic panel that resists light scratches but should still be washed with foam and a soft mitt
• The hood is not meant to be opened by owners, so there is no engine bay cleaning on an iX; we focus on the charge port door and the lower body
• Frameless doors and a very tall glass area mean a lot of inside glass work; the fingerprints on the curved display are the usual request
