The R1S is the family version of the Rivian and the ones we detail in Oakville and Vaughan have three rows of light synthetic leather that have seen a lot of kids and cottage trips. We fold every row, clean the floors under them, lift the marks from the seats and keep the wood matte. The frunk and the deep rear well get emptied and vacuumed. Outside, the big wheels get brushed clean of mud and the paint gets a sealant beside your charger.

What we watch for on a R1S

• The third row folds flat and the floor beneath collects snacks and sand from the cottage; we fold the seats and clean under them
• Light Ocean Coast seats in a family SUV show dye, crayon and boot marks; a vinyl-safe cleaner and a protectant
• Open-grain wood trim should get a matte cleaner, never a glossy dressing
• The glass roof lets sun onto the whole cabin; a UV protectant on the seats and dash
• The frunk and the deep rear well collect charging cables and grit; we empty and vacuum them
