The Insight came in two forms, a budget hatchback from the early 2010s and a Civic-based sedan with a nicer cabin from 2019 on, and they need different work. The older car's light grey cloth and thin plastics show a decade of use and want extraction and a scrub. The newer sedan is usually a well-kept commuter with perforated leather that we clean with a brush rather than flooding it. Both have slippery aero shapes that polish quickly.

What we watch for on a Insight

• The older hatchback has a split rear window with a lower glass pane that needs cleaning inside and out

• The newer sedan's perforated leather is cleaned with a brush and wiped, never soaked

Small cabins mean every surface is within reach of a stray coffee or a boot print, and the carpets take it all. Outside, compact cars live a hard life in parking lots and on the 401, so the lower panels collect salt and stone chips.
