Detailing your Bentley Continental GT

A Continental GT is built by hand, and the interior is where that shows: open-pore veneers, quilted hides and knurled metal that all need their own cloth and product. We brush the quilting channels clean, wipe the wood with a damp microfibre only and foam the leather before conditioning it. Outside, the deep paint rewards a careful correction, the GTC's fabric roof gets a dedicated treatment and the big wheels get an iron remover.

What we watch for on a Continental GT

• Open-pore wood veneers across the dash and doors are cleaned with a barely damp microfibre and never a dressing that would darken the grain
• Diamond-quilted leather holds dust in the stitching channels; a soft brush and a foaming leather cleaner get into them without saturating the hide
• The GTC's fabric roof, including the tweed option, needs a fabric cleaner, a soft brush for pollen and a water-repellent treatment
• Twenty-two-inch wheels with huge brakes bake dust into the barrels; an iron remover and a long brush are needed every wash
• Bentley paint is deep and takes a careful two-step correction well, but two-tone cars have a hand-finished colour break that we tape before polishing

Luxury cars: soft paint, delicate trim

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
