Detailing your Ford Transit

Transits do the real work of the GTA, from courier routes in North York to church and daycare runs in Brampton, and they rarely get more than a quick rinse. We give the cargo floor a scrub and a rinse, clean the step wells and sliding-door tracks, and get the cab free of the coffee and dust that build up over a year of routes. For passenger wagons we extract every seat row and sanitize the handholds. We bring a ladder for the high roof.

What we watch for on a Transit

• Cargo van floors have ribbed rubber or plywood that holds grit and spilled chemicals; we scrub and rinse the floor and squeegee it dry rather than vacuuming only
• High-roof vans are over 2.7 metres tall, so the roof and the top of the windscreen only get cleaned when someone brings a ladder — we do
• Passenger wagons with 12 or 15 seats have a lot of cloth and cupholders; shuttle operators usually need the seats extracted and the floor steam-cleaned between contracts
• The step wells at the sliding door and rear doors collect salt and mud that gets tracked through the whole van; we clean the tracks so the door slides properly
• Front cab plastics are hard-wearing and grey, and the dash top fades and cracks under UV; a matte protectant keeps it from drying out

Vans and minivans: the busiest interiors on the road

Minivans and vans see more spills, seat-belt buckles, snack crumbs and cargo than any other category. Sliding doors, seat tracks and cargo tie-downs all need attention.
