The Golf family runs from student hatchbacks to track-day GTIs and dog-hauling Alltracks, and we see all of them in the GTA. Plaid GTI seats get a real extraction, the Mk8 piano-black panels get a plush cloth and nothing abrasive, and wagon cargo carpets get a shampoo for the dog hair. The hard VW clear coat corrects nicely, and R owners get the brake dust dissolved out of the wheel barrels before anything touches them.

What we watch for on a Golf

• GTI plaid cloth holds dirt in the weave and needs a proper fabric extraction, not a harsh all-purpose cleaner that leaves rings
• Mk8 GTI and R cars have piano-black panels and touch sliders that show every fingerprint and scratch, so we clean them with a plush microfibre only
• Golf R and GTI brakes produce heavy dust that bonds to the wheel finish; an iron remover before a brush keeps the wheels clean
• SportWagen and Alltrack cargo areas carry dogs and bikes, so the carpet gets a shampoo and the plastic load sill is usually scratched
• Volkswagen clear coat is fairly hard, so swirls on Tornado Red and Deep Black polish out well with a two-step correction

Compact cars: small cabins, big wear

Small cabins mean every surface is within reach of a stray coffee or a boot print, and the carpets take it all. Outside, compact cars live a hard life in parking lots and on the 401, so the lower panels collect salt and stone chips.
