Detailing your BMW X7

The X7 is a seven-seat family bus with a luxury interior, which means an Ivory leather cabin and a third row full of cracker dust. We fold the second row and work the rear from the tailgate, brush the Alcantara headliner gently and clean the leather with foam rather than wipes. The roof is so tall that most washes miss it, so we do the roof, the three glass panels and the rails by hand from a step.

What we watch for on a X7

• The third row is used by kids and gets crumbs, juice and shoe marks that are hard to reach; we fold the second row and work from the tailgate
• The Alcantara headliner on many cars must be brushed and spot cleaned without soaking; hand prints near the sunroof switches are the usual problem
• Ivory White leather is the most common colour we see on X7s and it needs a foaming cleaner and soft brush to lift denim dye and food marks
• Soft-close doors and long, tall door panels take scuffs at the bottom from shoes; a gentle cleaner and a soft brush remove them
• The roof is tall and long, so brush washes rarely reach it properly; we clean and polish the roof and the glass panels by hand from a step
