Detailing your Rolls-Royce Dawn

The Dawn is a convertible Rolls-Royce, and the open-pore wood deck behind the rear seats sits out in the sun and the odd rain shower every time the top is down. We wipe it with a barely damp cloth and nothing else, clean the fabric roof with a dedicated product and protect it, and vacuum the lambswool mats with a soft brush. Spring visits after storage are a rinseless wash and a sealant refresh, with the coach door seals cleaned on every visit.

What we watch for on a Dawn

• The fabric soft top needs a fabric cleaner, a soft brush for pollen and a water-repellent treatment, and it must be completely dry before stowing
• The open-pore Canadel wood deck behind the rear seats is exposed to sun and rain with the roof down; a barely damp microfibre and no dressing keep the grain natural
• The Dawn's lambswool mats are vacuumed with a soft brush attachment and spot cleaned with the least moisture possible, never extracted
• Coach doors have long seals that collect grit; we clean the jambs so the doors close silently
• When the Dawn comes out of storage in May it carries a fine film of garage dust; a rinseless wash removes it without marring, followed by a sealant top-up
