The ID.4 is the family EV of a lot of GTA households, and its light grey cabin with gloss-black controls shows every fingerprint and crumb. We clean the piano-black panels with a soft cloth, foam the grey seats and brush the glass-roof shade. There is no engine bay or front trunk, so the time goes into the charge port flap, the cowl and a sealant that makes winter film rinse away without scrubbing.

What we watch for on a ID.4

• The piano-black console and touch sliders scratch and show fingerprints; we use a plush microfibre and a non-abrasive cleaner only
• Light Lunar Grey interiors show denim dye and crumbs on the seats and door panels; a foaming cleaner and a soft brush restore them
• The fixed panoramic glass roof has a fabric sunshade; we clean the glass from inside with a glass-safe cleaner and brush the shade
• The charge port on the rear fender collects salt spray on the 401; we clean the flap and surround with a brush and damp cloth
• The hood stays shut because there is no front trunk, so we clean the cowl and seals where leaves gather instead of an engine bay
