Detailing your Genesis G80

A G80 arrives with open-pore wood, a suede headliner and sometimes matte paint, and each of those changes the products we use: the wood gets a barely damp cloth, the headliner gets a dry brush, and matte paint gets a matte-safe cleaner and sealant with no polish anywhere near it. Earlier cars sold as the Hyundai Genesis sedan are simpler and usually need their leather conditioned. The big wheels get a barrel brush, and gloss paint gets a careful polish and coating.

What we watch for on a G80

• Open-pore wood trim must not be soaked or polished; we wipe it with a barely damp cloth
• Matte paint options need matte-safe cleaners and a matte sealant, never wax or polish
• The suede headliner on upper trims is cleaned with a dry brush and spot treatment only
• 20-inch wheels on upper trims collect heavy brake dust and have thin spokes that need a barrel brush
• The Electrified G80's charge port sits behind the grille emblem and its seal needs wiping

Luxury cars: soft paint, delicate trim

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
