Detailing your Audi A6

The A6 is the quiet executive Audi, and the RS 6 Avant is the loud one, but they share a cabin full of glass screens and open-pore wood that need a careful hand. We clean the haptic displays with no pressure, keep dressings off the wood and clean the light Valcona leather with foam. Outside, the hard clear coat lets us correct brush-wash swirls fully, and the RS 6's 22-inch wheels get an iron remover before a brush goes near them.

What we watch for on a A6

• The dual haptic touchscreens on 2019+ cars show fingerprints and the gloss-black bezels scratch, so we use a screen-safe cleaner and a lint-free towel with no pressure
• RS 6 Avant cars wear 22-inch wheels with enormous brakes, and the dust bakes on; an iron remover and a long-handled brush are essential
• Open-pore wood inlays must not get a glossy dressing; a damp microfibre and a dry buff keep the grain natural
• Pearl Beige and Okapi Brown Valcona leather show denim dye and grey wear on the bolsters; a foaming leather cleaner and soft brush restore them
• The long hood and roof of a dark A6 show brush-wash swirls, and Audi's hard clear coat lets us correct them fully with a two-step polish

Luxury cars: soft paint, delicate trim

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
