Detailing your Audi A8

An A8 is usually a rear-seat car, driven by someone else, so the back half of the cabin is where we spend the time: the relaxation seat, the rear touch panels, the door leather and the carpet. The Alcantara headliner is brushed dry, the open-pore wood is wiped damp and the Valcona leather is cleaned with foam. Outside, the long body takes a full correction well and the pitted chrome around the glass gets polished and sealed.

What we watch for on a A8

• The Alcantara headliner should be brushed dry and spot cleaned with minimal moisture; hand prints near the grab handles and sunroof are the usual issue
• Rear relaxation seats and the rear touch controls get the most use in chauffeur-driven cars, so we clean the rear compartment as thoroughly as the front
• Open-pore wood inlays get a damp microfibre only; a dressing would darken the grain and streak
• The long roof and hood show swirls on dark colours and Audi's hard clear coat lets a two-step correction clear them completely
• Chrome window trim pits in salt; we polish it and apply a sealant to slow the pitting

Luxury cars: soft paint, delicate trim

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
