Detailing your Jaguar XJ

The XJ is a big, low British sedan that often spent its life in the chauffeur lane, and the cabin is full of surfaces that need a gentle hand: wood veneer, suede headliner, pale leather and a glass roof. We brush the headliner dry, polish the veneer with a soft cloth and foam the leather before conditioning it. The soft paint on the aluminum body gets a fine polish with light pressure and a coating that holds through the salt.

What we watch for on a XJ

• The suede-cloth headliner is brushed dry and spot cleaned with minimal moisture; hand prints near the grab handles are the usual issue
• Wood veneer across the dash has a clear finish that scratches and clouds with abrasive cleaners; a plush microfibre only
• Ivory and London Tan leather absorb denim dye and hand oils; we clean gently with a foaming product and condition
• The panoramic glass roof is cleaned from inside with a glass-safe cleaner and outside with foam and a soft mitt
• The aluminum body has soft paint that swirls easily; a fine polish with light pressure and a coating keep it deep

Luxury cars: soft paint, delicate trim

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
