A 7 Series is often somebody's office, so the rear seat matters as much as the paint. What we watch for on a 7 Series

• The current car offers a cashmere-wool and leather seat combination that must be vacuumed with a soft brush and spot-cleaned without saturating the fabric
• The fold-down rear Theatre Screen and the door-mounted touch panels need a screen-safe cleaner and a lint-free microfibre, with no sprays near the hinges
• Chauffeur-driven cars arrive with a clean driver's seat and a heavily used rear bench, so we budget our time for the back half of the car
• Two-tone paint on the newest cars has a horizontal colour break that we tape before polishing so the machine never bridges the two finishes
• Soft-close doors and long door panels collect scuffs from shoes at the bottom; a gentle all-purpose cleaner and a soft brush take them off without marring the leather

Luxury cars: soft paint, delicate trim

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
