The Q5 is the default luxury SUV of the northern GTA, and it does family duty every day of the week. We brush the dog hair out of the cargo carpet, extract the salt rings from the floor and clean the beige leather with foam so it does not go blotchy. What we watch for on a Q5

• This is the most common Audi on GTA driveways, and most arrive with child-seat crumbs, dog hair in the cargo carpet and a salt line along the rockers
• Panoramic sunroof drains clog with maple keys and pine needles in spring; we clear the channels during an exterior detail
• Plug-in hybrid cars have a charge port on the rear bumper corner that collects salt spray; we clean it with a brush and damp cloth
• Atlas Beige leather is popular and shows denim transfer and sunscreen; foaming leather cleaner and a soft brush restore it
• SQ5 wheels and brakes bake dust into the barrels and the Sportback's sloped rear glass spots badly; iron remover for one, glass polish for the other
