Dash, door panels, console and vents cleaned with brushes and steam, then protected with a matte water-based UV product. No slick shine.
A dashboard dressed with a glossy protectant looks clean for a day, then it reflects into the windshield, collects dust like a magnet and leaves a slick film on everything you touch. Auto Royale does the opposite: we clean the dash, door panels, console and trim properly, down into the seams and vents, and finish with a matte, water-based UV protectant that leaves the surface looking factory new rather than wet.
The cleaning is the part that takes the time. Protectant over dirt just seals the dirt in, which is why a dash can feel sticky a week after a cheap detail.
Silicone and oil-based dressings create a reflective surface that bounces sunlight straight into the windshield, which is a real problem on a west-facing commute at five o'clock. They attract dust, they transfer to clothes and hands, and over time they can dry out plastics. Some dressings also off-gas and add to the film on the inside of the windshield.
A factory dashboard is matte, so that is what we aim for. The right protectant disappears into the surface, adds UV blockers that slow fading and cracking, and leaves nothing to touch.
We start with a vacuum and a soft brush to pull dust from vents, speaker grilles, seams and the gap where the dash meets the windshield. Then a diluted all-purpose cleaner is applied to a towel or a brush, never sprayed onto the dash where it will run into screens and switches, and the surface is worked clean. Detail brushes handle the textures, stitching and gaps around buttons; a steamer at low moisture lifts grime from vent louvres and cup holders without soaking anything.
Door panels get the same, with the armrests and door pulls treated as the high-wear zones they are. The hand grime on a driver's door pull is usually the dirtiest spot in the cabin after the steering wheel.
Once the surface is clean and dry we apply a water-based protectant with a foam applicator, work it in thinly and wipe it back with a clean microfibre. The result is a surface that looks like it did the day the car was delivered, with no gloss and no residue. It helps the dash shed dust and slows the UV damage that turns a black dash grey and eventually cracks it. In a GTA summer, a car parked outdoors all day sees cabin temperatures that bake unprotected plastic, which is why we include this on every interior.
High-gloss black trim scratches if you wipe it dry, so it is cleaned with a damp plush microfibre and finished with a glass-safe cleaner on a second towel. Touchscreens and instrument clusters get a screen-safe cleaner on a lint-free cloth. Soft-touch rubberized coatings on older German cars and some Hondas can turn sticky and peel; we clean them gently with a mild cleaner and tell you if the coating is failing, because scrubbing it only makes it worse.
A cracked dash, peeling soft-touch coating, a warped top pad or trim that has faded from black to grey across its whole surface is beyond cleaning. We can make it clean and even and slow further damage, but the material is gone. A sticky dashboard from a failed factory coating sometimes improves with a specific cleaning process, and we will tell you honestly what to expect once we see it.
Typical time: Included in every interior detail; about 30–60 minutes of a visit depending on the amount of trim and its condition.
