Detailing your BMW 8 Series

The 8 Series tends to be a cherished car, so our job is usually maintenance rather than rescue. We remove storage dust and spring pollen with a gentle wash, polish only where swirls have crept in, and coat the carbon roof on M8 cars so the UV does not dull it. Inside, the crystal controls and Merino leather need soft tools and light cleaners, and the convertible roof gets a fabric protectant before the season's first rain.

What we watch for on a 8 Series

• The glass-look crystal gear selector and iDrive controller scratch and cloud with abrasive cleaners, so they get a soft microfibre and a glass-safe spray only
• M8 Competition cars often have the optional carbon fibre roof, which should be polished with a light finishing pad and kept coated against UV fading
• Many 8 Series are summer-only cars in the GTA; after storage they need the dust film removed with a rinseless or gentle foam wash before any contact to avoid scratching
• Convertible fabric roofs develop a green tint along the seams if the car sits outside in spring pollen; we use a fabric cleaner, then a water-repellent coat
• Carbon-ceramic brakes on M8 cars leave less dust, but standard brakes on 840i and M850i wheels require iron remover before brushing

Luxury cars: soft paint, delicate trim

Premium interiors use more leather, open-pore wood and gloss trim, and premium paint is often softer. We use gentler chemistry, soft microfibre and slower machine passes so nothing is marred.
